We are privileged to have Aroha Te Pareake Mead confirmed as one of our Keynote Speakers for Foodomics 2021.
Aroha Mead is an independent Māori researcher from Ngāti Awa and Ngāti Porou, specialising in Mātauranga Māori/indigenous knowledge, biocultural heritage, conservation and indigenous cultural and intellectual property policy and law. She is Chair Emeritus of the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP) and spent 16 years on the Governing Council of IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). She remains active in IUCN.
Aroha is a member of the Māori Advisory Trademarks Committee and is on the Governing Council of Tapuhi Aotearoa (Safeguarding Aotearoa’s Unique Species), and Steering Committee of Species Aotearoa. Her current projects include working with the Biological Heritage National Science Challenge, and Wakatū Inc in their Indigenous Organisms Programme. She is on the Sustainability Advisory Council of Fonterra and the Kāhui for the Ministry for the Environment. She previously was on the Board of Genomics Aotearoa and chaired Genomics Aotearoa’s Kāhui.
